FIRST Destination: Deep Space
This year's game is called Destination: Deep Space, where we must build a robot to adapt to the sandstorms and load cargo into the various ships. The game uses basic ideas in complex ways and it is our job to engineer the best robot for the task. Each team is partnered with two other teams to form a three team alliance. The traditional 15-second autonomous period is replaced by a vision-obscuring sandstorm, where robots must either use an autonomous program or an on-board sensory array to navigate the field until the storm subsides. Robots have to fill the rockets and cargo ships with spherical cargo, while also sealing the hatches shut so the cargo doesn't escape. The incoming sandstorm forces robots to retreat into the safety of the habitat to end the challenge. As complex as this game is, it requires clear communication and gracious professionalism within the teams and their alliances. Overall we are in for an exciting and truly memorable year!
Highlight from the STEAMWORKS season 2017, we made it to the quarter finals of playoffs at the 10,000 Lakes Regional in Minneapolis! This was really exciting for our team and we are really proud of this accomplishment. Thank you to our mentors, parents, volunteers, alliance partners and students for making this past year great! We are looking forward to what the future holds.
