This year we were given the challenge to design and build a robot to compete in the game named as Steamworks. The game uses basic ideas in complex ways and it is our job to engineer the best robot for the task. Each team is partnered with two other teams to form a three team alliance. As an alliance the robots must collect fuel (balls) and score it in their boiler via high and low efficiency goals. Boilers turn fuel into steam pressure which is stored in the steam tank on their airship – but it takes more fuel in the low efficiency goal to build steam than the high efficiency goal. Additionally, robots deliver gears to pilots on their airship for installation. Once the gear train is complete, they turn the crank to start the rotor. Finally, robots must latch on to their airship before launch (the end of the match) by ascending their ropes to signal that they’re ready for takeoff. As complex as this game is, it requires clear communication and gracious professionalism within the teams and their alliances. Overall we are in for an exciting and truly memorable year!
Highlight from the Recycle Rush 2015 season...We were awarded the Creativity Award sponsored by Xerox! This award highlights teams that demonstrate creativity in design, use of components, or strategy of play! We are really excited and honored to have been awarded this great achievement and we could not have done it without the help of our amazing sponsors!
